Weekend Wear: Ballet Pink

This has been a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Week.

Runny Noses. Sore Throats. Crying Kiddos. Sick Mommy. Sick Nanny. Sick Kiddos. Crying Mommy.

That kind of week.

The good news is that we are on the up-and-up and looking forward to the weekend! The weekend makes everything better, doesn’t it? Sleeping in, lounging in jammies, fluffy pancakes, dance parties starting mid-morning. (You should come over some time, it’s a blast.)

Tomorrow is an extra special day because it’s observation day for Madelyn’s ballet class. Ballet is very serious business here in New York. She’s only three years old, but Maddie wears the full out pink tights and long sleeve scoop neck leotard. Her class practices with a live pianist. And, as politely requested, her hair is placed in a “ballet bun.”

I’ve warned myself: this is where the overly proud, obsessively annoying my-kid-is-the-best parenting “thing” starts. It starts here, at ballet. How can you not fall head over heels with your little girl who is squirming to attempt the first position in 3 yards of pink lycra and a teetering ballet bun? (Answer: you can’t.)

So, I am going to put Aquaphor all over my sore red nose tonight and get ready to watch Maddie’s ballet class tomorrow. I’ve mentally pulled myself into a cute little package (above) with a dab of pink and some of my favorite accessories. After all, this is the first time I’ve left the house in a week. I might as well look good.
